Pathing.
- Robert McMillan: "Wanna Build a Rocket? NASA's About to Give Away a Mountain of Its Code." NASA goes open-source.
- Chris Dixon: "The decline of the mobile web." THIS IS IMPORTANT.
- Ben Thompson: "Why the Web Still Matters for Writing." ALSO IMPORTANT.
- Klint Finley: "Apple's Operating System Guru Goes Back to His Roots." An interesting view into a significant career change: from OSX (Darwin) back to FreeBSD.
Manufacturing.
- Mikey Campbell: "Apple working on voice-recognizing headphones with built-in accelerometer, beamforming mics." These are some next-level EarPods. I just hope they redesign the shape, too.
- Tom Simonite: "Cheaper Joints and Digits Bring the Robot Revolution Closer." These things look so cool!
- Joshua Romero: "Carbon Nanotubes Take the Heat Off Chips." Advances in materials = advances in computing.
Logistics.
- The Wikipedia page for Beamforming. I don't understand this, but it seems powerful (see the Apple headphones article above).
- Lorraine Luk: "Foxconn Is Quietly Working With Google on Robotics." Google's robotics portfolio (& possible plans for it) is crazy.
- Mat Honan: "Blue Bottle Coffee Buys Coding Talent for Next-Level Delivery." I will be keeping my eyes on this: A top-shelf brand, buying a web delivery service.
Reflecting.
- MIT Technology Review: "How the Internet is Taking Away America's Religion."
- The Wikipedia page for tapetum lucidum. This is the reflective layer in the back of many animals' eyes that helps them see at night - and also makes them shiny when you photograph them with a flash.
Stuff that doesn't fit into my dumb/arbitrary categories.
- Felix Salmon: "Stop Adding up the Wealth of the Poor." Bad statistics suck. Also, "net worth" is weird.
- Geoff Pullum: "No Foot in Mouth." An old post on Rumsfeld's famous "known/unknown" memo.
- How Sound: "My Kingdom for some Structure." Cute set of napkin wireframes (ish) of popular NPR shows.
And.
